@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball collides with Lehman in a back-and-forth CUNYAC thriller

York College continues CUNYAC road play Tuesday (Jan. 31) at Baruch College

BRONX --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.comYork College men's basketball were headlined by four double-digit scorers Friday evening in a CUNYAC road thriller, but were unable to come away with the win, falling 91-85 to the Lehman College Lightning (13-7, 7-2 CUNYAC) inside The APEX. 

How it Happened
  • Matthew Trepeta hit two free throws to put York up 8-5 early on.
  • Lehman responded with a 13-3 run to take an eight-point advantage (18-10) at the 13:53 mark.
  • The Cardinals stormed back on a 21-9 extended spurt to lead 31-27 with 4:23 remaining in the half. 
  • Isaiah Gathers' 3-pointer with 1:28 left put the Lightning ahead, 35-33.
  • With two seconds on the clock, Devine Chisholm canned a jumper to slice York's deficit to 40-39 at the break.
  • York took a team-high six-point lead (53-47) 4:50 into second-half play with a layup by Olawale Kila.
  • The Lightning scored eight-straight points to take a 55-53 lead with 13:09 remaining.
  • York went up by four (59-55) with a 6-0 run.
  • A back-and-forth affair for the rest of the period, York maintained a 77-73 edge with 5:19 showing on the second-half clock.
  • Juan Fernandez dropped in a layup with 2:29 left to cap off an 11-3 Lightning to take an 84-79 lead for Lehman's first two-possession advantage in the final 20 minutes. 
  • York twice pulled within four down the stretch, knocking down 4-of-5 freebies in the final 1:32 of play. 
  • Mo Idrissou sealed the game by nailing two free-throws with 15 seconds left, pushing Lehman's advantage to 91-85. 
  • Overall, the game had 14 ties and 18 lead changes.

Inside the Box Score
Terrell Fullerton led the way for York with 18 points (7-of-17 FG, 4-of-9 FT) to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Kila recorded his sixth double-double of the campaign with 16 points (8-of-14 FG) and a team-high 10 boards. Chisholm added 14 points (2-of-5 3FG, 6-of-6 FT) and five assists. Trepeta chipped in with 11 points (3-of-6 FG, 5-of-5 FT). Off the bench, Tavon Price scored eight points (4-of-5 FG) and Tyres Desinor posted a season-best seven boards. 

Isaiah Geathers feasted for Lehman, scoring a game-high 32 points (11-of-19 FG, 3-of-5 3FG, 7-of-10 FT), grabbing nine boards, and swatting away three shots. Idrissou notched a double-double, totaling 19 points (5-of-11 FG, 9-10 FT) and 11 rebounds to go along with four blocks. Kai Parris added 12 points (5-of-11 FG) and two blocks. Will Feldman controlled the offense, dishing out a game-leading eight dimes. 

York shot 44.3 percent (31-of-70) from the floor, 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from deep, and 73.1 percent (19-of-26) from the line. Lehman knocked down 49.2 percent (32-of-65) of its shots and canned 78.6 percent (22-of-28) percent from the charity stripe. 

The Lightning had the advantage in rebounds (41-37), assists (17-12), and blocks (10-1) to go along with their shooting edge. While they had more fast break points (23-15), the Cardinals outplayed the Lightning in points off turnovers (17-10). Both schools played each other relatively evenly with Lehman finishing with the upper hand in second-chance scoring (16-14), bench points (23-22) and points in the paint (54-48).
