@yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball battles John Jay on Alumni Appreciation Night

York College travels Thursday (Mar. 17) for CUNYAC action against Baruch College


JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball continued their CUNYAC schedule Tuesday evening at home, falling in straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-17) to the John Jay College Bloodhounds (6-7, 4-2 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium.  Prior to first serve, the team welcomed back a crowd of familiar faces with a group picture as part of Athletics Alumni Appreciation Night.  

2022 Alumni Appreciation Night -WR-

David Heyliger, Jr. served York to an early lead with an ace to open the match.  Both teams traded runs until John Jay used a 7-1 spurt to build a 12-5 advantage in the first set.  The Cardinals got as close as four before the Bloodhounds outscored York 8-3 to seal set point.  Trailing 5-0, Heyliger, Jr. launched a pair of aces to pull York within one (5-4).  Leading 8-7, John Jay created separation with a 6-1 run to take control of the set.  During a third set that featured five ties and two lead changes, John Jay regained the lead after trailing 10-9 with a 16-7 scoring spree to close out the match.   

Heyliger Jr. paced York with 12.5 points, nailing down seven kills on 22 swings to go along with five aces, eight digs and one block assist.  Mambe Koureissi followed with five kills and 1.5 blocks as Anthony Nazario, Jr. dished out seven assists.  Jamie Haskell scooped five digs to contribute to York's defensive attack.  

Jack Nugent served one ace and registered a match-high nine kills and 2.5 blocks to finish with 12.5 points in leading John Jay to victory.  Manuel Peralta's 15 assists moved the Bloodhounds on offense.  Carlos Llivicura contributed a team-best three aces.  

In the end, the Cardinals compiled 12 kills on 47 attempts to attack at a rate of -.106.  York owned the edge in digs (16-14), while the Bloodhounds held the advantage in points (46-20), kills (30-12), assists (26-10), aces (10-5), blocks (6-3) and attacking percentage (.386 to -.106).
