NEW YORK --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball traveled Thursday evening for a CUNYAC bout, dropping three-straight sets (25-6, 25-4, 25-7) against the Baruch College Bearcats (8-9, 6-0 CUNYAC) inside ARC Arena.
The Bearcats opened up the contest scoring 11-straight points to hold the momentum in their favor.
David Heyliger, Jr. connected on two kills in the first set to spark the Cardinals before Baruch ended on a 6-2 run to close the stanza. The Bearcats capitalized on the momentum to commence a 15-1 spurt to seal the second set. Trailing 24-4, York answered with three-straight points prior to Baruch tallying the final point to capture the victory.
Heyliger Jr. pushed York with five kills on 29 swings to go along with five digs.
Olawale Kila and
Jamie Haskell each registered one kill and one block assist as
Anthony Nazario, Jr.'s seven assists facilitated the Cardinal offense.
Justin Dibra served York's lone ace.
Akil Vaughn led Baruch to victory with a match-high 10 points, totaling five service aces and five kills. Ryan Oommen dished out 18 assists while Stallone Shankar went for nine assists and five aces. Carlos Rodriguez knocked down a match-high seven kills and two blocks.
York struggled against the CUNYAC-leading Bearcats, hitting a season-low -.241 with seven kills on 54 attempts. Baruch finished with the upper hand in points (50-9), kills (31-7), assists (31-7), digs (24-9), aces (15-1), blocks (4-1) and attacking percentage (.614 to -.241).
