York College returns home Sunday (Feb. 6) for a CUNYAC showdown against Lehman College


BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball notched their first two-game winning streak of the season Friday evening with a balanced attack in a dominant 97-69 CUNYAC road win against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (5-14, 2-8 CUNYAC) inside Cougars Cave.  The win secured York its first season sweep of the Cougars since 2014-15 while also claiming victory at Medgar Evers for the first time since December 8, 2017.

How it Happened​​​​​​
  • Both teams traded baskets in the early going until York went on a 17-2 scoring spree to jump out to a 21-7 lead with 11:47 left in the opening half. 
  • Medgar Evers answered with a pair of three-pointers to trim its deficit to 10 (23-13) 49 seconds later. 
  • York went up by as many as 18 points before taking a 50-32 advantage into intermission.  
  • Trailing 60-37, the Cougars scored nine of the game's next 10 points to get as close as 14 (60-46) at the 15:15 mark. 
  • Playing ahead for the final 37:08, York went on a 16-3 spurt to build a game-high 31 point lead (88-57) with 4:58 remaining.
Inside the Box Score
Quran Dublin led all scorers with 23 points and added 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals to pace York to victory.  Guillermo Hernandez dropped in 12 points (5-of-11 FG) and registered career-highs of 22 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals (tied career-high).  Donald Hartley Jr. contributed 15 points (3-of-7 3FG), seven rebounds, three assists and one steal.  Mambe Koureissi pitched in 15 points (7-of-9 FG), 12 rebounds (career-high) and one block.  Tavon Price sparked the Cardinals with 14 points (4-of-8 FG, 6-of-7 3PT FG) off the bench while Devine Chishilm dished out a game-high six assists.

Andre Evans Jr. led the Cougars with 18 points and five steals. Mousa Sinera followed with 12 points, 15 rebounds and four steals.

York finished the game converting on 46.9 percent (38-of-81) from the field, 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from downtown and 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the charity stripe while Medgar Evers made 26.1 percent (24-of-92) of their field goals, 20 percent (6-of-30) from three-point land and 60 percent (15-of-25) from the free-throw line.  The Cardinals dominated on the glass with a season-high 78 boards to hold a +33 (78-45) rebounding edge.  The 78 rebounds marked York's highest total since grabbing 81 in a 97-60 win at Medgar Evers on February 6, 2009.  York pulled down 22 offensive rebounds to generate 19 second-chance points and also outplayed Medgar Evers in assists (25-9) and blocks (6-4).  Medgar Evers held the edge in steals (14-7) and scored 21 points off 28 York turnovers.
