www.YORKATHLETICS.com) #4 York College women's basketball pushed late but were unable to overcome an 18-point deficit Sunday afternoon against the #5 Hunter College Hawks (10-13), falling 55-47 at home in the first-round of the CUNYAC Championship.
How it Happened
- Hunter jumped ahead early by scoring eight of the game's first 10 points 2:52 in.
- Kristina Sierra answered for York with a 3-pointer before Hunter used a 10-2 run to lead by 11 (18-7) with 2:10 left in the period.
- Trailing 18-10 heading into the second quarter, Mac-Dege Dessources scored five points during a 10-2 Cardinal spurt to knot the game at 20 at the 6:11 mark.
- Both teams played even the rest of the way to send a 27-all game into the break.
- After five ties in the opening half, Hunter raced out to a 36-29 lead 4:59 in.
- York's slow start proved costly as Hunter extended a one-point lead (30-29) with a decisive 18-5 run to take a 48-34 advantage with 1:05 showing on the third-quarter clock.
- Trailing by a game-high 18 points (53-35) with 7:08 left in the fourth, Dessources scored eight points during a 12-2 push in the final 6:46 to settle the 55-47 final.

Dessources finished with 24 points (10-of-18 FG), 16 rebounds (nine offensive), three blocks, three steals and three assists to register her 12th double-double of the season (41st career).
Ellma Hodzic followed with 11 points, seven rebounds and one steal while
Kristina Sierra chipped in eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
Alicia Gumbs added five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Kristina Krslovic paced Hunter to victory with 11 points (3-of-6 3FG), seven assists and six rebounds. Nia Chung scored 10 points (4-of-6 FG) as Kimberly Lau tallied 10 rebounds and seven assists.
In the end, York shot 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the field, 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from 3-point range and 40 percent (6-of-15) from the free-throw line. Hunter landed 34.5 percent (20-of-58) from the floor, 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from long distance and 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the charity stripe. The Cardinals won the boards battle, 42-39, scoring 19 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds. York also owned the advantage in steals (10-4) and points in the paint (28-12) as both teams drew even in blocks (3-3). Hunter outplayed York in assists (16-13) and bench scoring (16-0) while scoring 23 points off 13 turnovers.
