York College women's basketball were unable to protect home court Friday afternoon in a CUNYAC battle, falling 57-48 against the Hunter College Hawks (7-13, 4-6 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium. The setback split the season series after York registered a 66-61 win at Hunter on January 19.
How it Happened
- Kristina Sierra drilled a 3-pointer 11 seconds in to open the scoring, grabbing control of the game early for York.
- Moments later, York jumped ahead by five (9-4) for its largest lead of the game as four different scorers contributed to the advantage at the 4:25 mark.
- Hunter closed out the final 2:10 of the first quarter with an 11-4 run to lead by four (20-16).
- The Hawks, who went up by as many as eight (31-23) in the second stanza, outscored York over the next 10 minutes, 15-14, to lead 35-30 at the break.
- York scored six-straight points to pull in front by one (36-35) as Hunter misfired on eight attempts in the opening 5:43 of second-half play.
- The Cardinals went up 40-38 before Hunter rallied in the final 2:37 to hold a 47-42 edge heading into the final period.
- Mac-Dege Dessources sliced York's deficit in half with a three-point play to make it a 49-46 game with 7:24 showing on the clock.
- Hunter answered with an 8-2 run to close out the game to secure a nine-point win.

Dessources registered her 38th career double-double (ninth of season), producing 24 points (9-of-19 FG), 10 rebounds (eight offensive), two blocks and one steal. Ellma Hodzic added nine points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Aminata Sagna went for nine rebounds and one block while Alicia Gumbs pitched in eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block.
Kristina Krslovic led the way for the Hawks with 12 points, seven assists, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Nia Chung added 11 points, four rebounds, four steals and one block while Katie Burke contributed 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.
York finished the game shooting 37 percent (17-of-46) from the field, 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from downtown and 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the free-throw line while Hunter connected on 35 percent (22-of-74) from the floor, 24 percent (6-of-25) from 3-point range and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the stripe. The Cardinals won the battle of the boards, 47-27, and led the game in blocks (6-4) and points in the paint (28-24). The Hawks outplayed York in assists (15-13) and steals (15-6), and scored 18 points off 29 York turnovers.
