www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball grabbed control of the game with an 18-point halftime cushion and never looked back Friday evening to top the visiting Hunter College Hawks (11-12, 6-7 CUNYAC), 105-90, in CUNYAC action inside York College Gymnasium. The win split the season series after Hunter pulled out a 123-118 victory at home on January 19.
How it Happened
- During an opening half that featured three lead changes and two ties, Hunter jumped ahead early to take its largest lead of the game 1:55 in with a 6-2 advantage.
- York responded with an 8-0 spurt as Devine Chisholm scored five-straight points to cap the run.
- Moments later, York went up by seven (19-12) before the Hawks regained control with a 9-2 run to make it a 23-21 game.
- Trailing 25-23, Donald Hartley Jr. scored 10 points to key a decisive 18-2 scoring spree that built a 14-point advantage (41-27) for York with 3:23 left in the half.
- The Cardinals went up by as many as 19 in the stanza and took a 55-37 advantage into intermission after landing 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from 3-point territory and 90 percent (9-of-10) from the free-throw line.
- Playing ahead for the final 28:21, York outscored Hunter 26-11 during a stretch to extend its lead to a game-high 31 points (89-58) with 10:55 showing on the second-half clock.
- Hunter went on a 26-10 scoring spree over the final 7:27 to fall by 15 points.
Inside the Box Score
York scored all five of its starters in double-figures paced by Hartley Jr., who led all scorers with 21 points (8-of-15 FG, 3-of-6 3FG) and added eight assists (season-high), five rebounds and one steal to his statline.
Guillermo Hernandez registered a career-high 20 points (9-of-13 FG) and collected 16 rebounds with two assists and one steal for his fifth double-double of the season. Chisholm followed with 16 points (5-of-10 FG, 2-of-3 3FG, 4-of-4 FT), five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Quran Dublin added 15 points (5-of-11 FG, 2-of-3 3FG, 3-of-4 FT), eight assists, seven rebounds and one steal while
Mambe Koureissi threw in 12 points (5-of-7 FG), 13 rebounds, four steals, two blocks and one assist.
Tavon Price and
Olawale Kila scored eight points apiece to spark York off the bench.
Jeremy Montrose went for 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals to pace Hunter. Luka Jakic followed with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jared Brown dished out a game-high eight assists as Cormac Reilly and Gene Propper both scored 12 points.
In the end, York converted on a 51.9 percent (42-of-81) of their field goals, 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from 3-point range and 87.5 percent (14-of-16) from the charity stripe while Hunter shot 30.4 percent (31-of-102) from the floor, 23.8 percent (15-of-63) from outside the arc and 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the free-throw line. The Cardinals dominated the glass, 68-48, scoring 17 second chance points off 21 offensive rebounds. York edged Hunter in assists (27-21), blocks (2-1) and points in the paint (58-24). The Hawks led the way in steals (19-9) and scored 27 points off 35 York turnovers.
