@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball scores three in double-digits in non-conference finale at Drew

York College returns home January 3 to face Baruch College in a CUNYAC bout

MADISON, NJ --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball closed out its non-conference slate Saturday afternoon with a 94-66 setback on the road against the Drew University Rangers (7-4) inside Baldwin Gym.

How it Happened
  • The two schools traded baskets early on as Drew led 8-7.
  • Drew went on a 13-3 run to go up 21-10 at the 12:52 mark.
  • Olawale Kila's layup with 7:35 remaining cut York's deficit to nine (30-21), the closest the Cardinals got in the first half.
  • The Rangers responded with a 9-2 burst that extended their lead to 16 (39-23).
  • York regained momentum, going on a 9-3 spurt, as Kila's layup with 2:14 left made it 42-32. 
  • Michael Kane's bucket with 20 seconds remaining added to Drew's 10-0 run to hold a 52-32 advantage at intermission.
  • Kila's driving score at the 18:08 mark made York's deficit 18 (52-34), the  closest the Cardinals would get in the second frame.
  • The Rangers' mainly held an advantage between 20-30 points in the second half. 
  • Kyle Cassidy's three-pointer with 2:21 remaining extended Drew's lead to over 30 (92-60) for the first time.
  • Mert Zor's three-point-play with 46 seconds left capped off the scoring.
Inside the Box Score
Micaiah Goosby made his debut by dropping in 21 points (10-of-15 FG) to go along with five rebounds, two steals, and a block in 19 minutes off the Cardinals' bench.

Along with Goosby, Terrell Fullerton scored 17 points (7-of-13 FG) and added five rebounds, four assists, and a steal to his stat line. Kila followed with 16 points (7-of-12 FG), six rebounds, and one steal. Matthew Smiley grabbed a team-best nine boards and nabbed two steals. Devine Chisholm dished out four assists, and Matthew Trepeta swept away two steals. 

Kane produced game-highs of 22 points (9-of-15 FG, 4-of-4 3FG) and 11 rebounds to pace Drew to victory. James Anderson netted 14 points while David Musial stuffed the stat sheet with 10 rebounds, six assists, six points, four steals, and two blocks.  

York shot 43.9 percent (29-of-66) from the field but only 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from downtown. In contrast, the Rangers made 49.3 percent of their shots (34-of-69) and an elite 47.4 percent (18-of-38) of their triples. 

In addition to the shooting edge, Drew outplayed York in assists (20-16), blocks (3-1), steals (12-9), and points off turnovers (18-11). Having an advantage inside, the Cardinals outplayed Drew in offensive boards (15-13) and points in the paint (48-30).
