Chisholm reaches 1,000 points as @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball hosts Baruch in a CUNYAC bout

York College returns to the court Friday (Jan. 6) against John Jay College in a CUNYAC road affair

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball opened their CUNYAC home slate Tuesday night with a 84-68 setback to the Baruch College Bearcats (10-3, 2-0 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium.

Playing in his 87th-career game, senior guard Devine Chisholm canned a 3-pointer to reach the 1,000-point landmark with 9:48 left in the first half to extend York's lead to 13 (31-18).

How it Happened
  • York took an early 10-3 lead following Micaiah Goosby's dunk.
  • The Cardinals stretched their advantage to 12 (25-13) with 11:35 remaining in the half after Matthew Trepeta's layup.
  • Baruch responded with a 20-6 burst to take a 33-31 lead at 6:49.
  • Mohammed Gueye's basket for the Bearcats with 1:03 showing on the clock pushed Baruch's lead to six (43-37) by halftime.
  • The Bearcats began the second stanza on another 20-6 run, extending their advantage to 20 (63-43) at the 15:10 mark.
  • Trailing 72-50, York went on a 16-4 burst to cut the deficit to 10 (76-66) with 2:59 remaining.
  • Baruch outscored York 8-2 in the final minutes to secure the 16-point win.

Inside the Box Score
Terrell Fullerton paced York with a team-best 20 points (3-of-7 FG, 7-of-7 FT). Fullerton also gathered a season-high 11 rebounds, dished out a team-leading four assists, and added two steals. Olawale Kila continued his recent surge, scoring 16 points on an efficient 8-of-14 from the floor. Trepeta chipped in with 11 points (3-of-7 3FG), hauled in five boards, totaled three assists, and recorded two steals. Goosby added 10 points (4-of-7 FG) as well. 

Devin Nicholson stole the show for Baruch, finishing with a game-best 28 points (10-of-15 FG, 6-of-9 3FG). Emil Purisic and Gueye both recorded double-doubles for the Bearcats. Purisc netted 14 points (5-of-9 FG) to go along with a game-high 13 boards. Gueye scored 11 points (5-of-9 FG) and grabbed 11 rebounds. 

York shot 34.7 percent (25-of-72) from the field, 33.3 percent (10-of-30) from 3-point range and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the free-throw line as Baruch connected on 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the floor, 35.7 percent (10-of-28) from beyond the arc and 80 percent (16-of-20) from the stripe.  The Cardinals outplayed Baruch in steals (8-4), assists (15-9) and converted 17 Bearcat miscues into 26 points.  Baruch won the boards battles, 49-34, scoring 22 second-chance points off 15 offensive boards.  The Bearcats also owned the edge in blocks (2-0), points in the paint (30-28) and bench scoring (38-5).
