Dessources grabs 1,000th rebound to pace @yorkcardinals Women’s Basketball to victory at Sarah Lawrence

York College takes the court on Wednesday (Nov. 16) for a non-conference matchup in its home opener against Ramapo College

BRONXVILLE, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball senior Mac-Dege Dessources grabbed her 1,000th-career rebound Saturday evening to lead the Cardinals to a 50-41 victory on the road against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (0-1) in a non-conference road encounter inside Campbell Sports Center.

Dessources, who entered the contest with 998 boards, became York's first known member of the 1,000-rebound club by grabbing her second pull-down of the game Saturday at the 3:23 mark in the first quarter. The Harlem native corralled 15 rebounds on Wednesday against Manhattanville College to pass Stayce Kay Muirhead (983 rebounds, 2011-15) to become York's all-time leader in rebounds.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to play basketball, the ability to rebound, and to be a key asset to my team. I am grateful for all the unconditional support I have at York College." said Dessources.

When asked about her accomplishment, head coach Kimani Jackson responded:

"Mac has an amazing ability to clean up the rim and her hunger for the ball is unmatched. She is the fuel to our offense and is key to our success. I'm so proud to see her achieve such an awesome accomplishment and I know there us so much more to come."  about

How it Happened
  • Demitra Loukopoulos hit a jumper with 31 seconds remaining in the first quarter, giving Sarah Lawrence a 13-12 lead after one.
  • Both teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter, and Ellma Hodzic's two pointer in the paint with 30 seconds on the clock gave York a 25-24 edge at halftime.
  • The Cardinals came out on fire in the third quarter as a layup by Dessources with 3:40 left capped off an 11-0 start to the frame.
  • Sarah Lawrence scored their first bucket almost seven minutes into the second half as Colleen Coughlin's layup at 3:08 trimmed the deficit to 10 (36-26).
  • York led by seven (40-33) entering the fourth quarter after Kumi Tamura's lay-in with 42 seconds remaining.
  • Sarah Lawrence chipped away in the fourth as Jordyn Medina's layup at 4:15 cut the score to 45-41.
  • York held the Gryphons scoreless the rest of the way as Hodzic's layup with 1:22 remaining was the dagger, closing the scoring at 50-41.

"Everything starts with defense and we were able to pick up our defensive intensity in the second half. I'm excited that our team was able to fight through our mistakes and pull out a well deserved win."-coach Jackson added

Inside the Box Score
