www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball battled early in their home opener against Ramapo College, but struggled late, as the Roadrunners (3-0) emerged victorious 61-47 in the Cardinals' non-conference matchup from York College Gymnasium.

Prior to opening tip, senior
Mac-Dege Dessources was recognized as the program's all-time leading rebounder after passing Stayce Kay Muirhead's (2011-15) mark of 983 rebounds. Dessources passed Muirhead's record in the November 9 season-opener at Manhattanville College. She then followed with a 12-rebound night on November 12 to lead York to victory at Sarah Lawrence College to become the program's inaugural member of the 1,000 rebound club.
How it Happened
- York took an early 6-2 advantage after Ellma Hodzic's fast-break layup 2:18 in.
- The Cardinals held a 14-13 advantage after the first quarter.
- In a defensive second stanza, the Roadrunners outscored the Cardinals 14-6.
- Following a layup by Hodzic at 2:34 to cut the score to 21-20, Ramapo closed out the half with a 6-0 spurt to take a 27-20 lead.
- Jada Thompson sank a pair of free throws with 1:02 remaining to end the first-half scoring.
- The first-half featured two ties and three lead changes, and the Roadrunners' seven-point lead at half was the game's largest at that point.
- Ramapo blitzed York to start the third quarter, going on a 9-2 run to extend its lead to 36-22.
- Down by 17 (45-28), York mounted a 6-0 spurt capped off by Hodzic's free throw with eight seconds remaining in the third, cutting the deficit to 11 (45-34).
- The closest the Cardinals got in the fourth quarter was 49-38 with 6:18 showing on the clock.
- Ramapo converted seven-straight points (55-38) to put the game out reach by the halfway mark of the fourth.
- York's Alicia Gumbs scored the final two points of the game after converting free throws with 19 seconds left.
- The Roadrunners played with a double-digit lead for the final 18:11.
Inside the Box Score
Hodzic and Dessources reached double-figure points for York, scoring 13 and 12, respectively. Hodzic also had team-highs in rebounds (10), assists (4), blocks (2), and steals (2). In addition to her 12 points, Dessources hauled in six boards and recorded one steal. Gumbs, Aminata Sagna, and Madison Plaza also tallied one steal, and Kristina Sierra also registered York's only other block.
Playing a season-high 23 minutes off the bench, Plaza added another look for York with Dessources logging only 23 minutes.

Thompson, Shannon Burns, and Bridget Cahill scored double-digit points for Ramapo. Thompson had 13 points and stole the ball a game-best six times. Burns led all players with 16 points (6-of-9 FG) and 12 rebounds and also finished with team-highs in assists (3) and blocks (2). Bridget reached 10 points on (6-of-9 FG).
Both schools struggled to put the ball in the basket. York shot 37 percent (18-of-49) from the field and 14 percent (1-of-7) from beyond the arc. Ramapo shot 38 percent (23-of-60) from the field and 31 percent (2-of-18) from long distance. The Roadrunners had the edge from the line, connecting on 13 of its 17 attempts, as the Cardinals made 10 of its 17 tries.
Turnovers decided the outcome. Ramapo scored 28 points off 29 turnovers, and York only managed to cash in only seven points from 18 giveaways. During the second and third quarters, the Roadrunners had a 16-0 advantage in that statistic. Recording 16 steals to York's six, Ramapo also had a 14-7 edge in fast-break points.
