Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer jumps ahead of Pratt in first half, holds off second-half comeback to settle for draw

York College will look to schedule more non-conference matches to complete their season

BROOKLYN -- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer drew against the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (1-12-3) 3-3 on Saturday morning in a non-conference road affair at Aviator Field.

Pratt took an early lead at 10:00 when Theo Goldman scored his fourth goal of the campaign. The match remained 1-0 until Kervin Mondesir's strike leveled the score at one, sparking a goal frenzy for York. Three minutes later, forward Emre Sahin gave the Cardinals an advantage, latching onto a pass from Emre Sahin. The talented freshman completed his brace at 42:30, as his solo goal brought his season total to five. In addition to outsourcing the Cannoneers, York played a brave defensive first half, limiting Pratt to five shots.

When commenting on Sahin, head coach Courtney Boothe stated:

"Emre has the potential to be a very good striker. He's the type of striker that defenders will fear because he can score with both feet."

Attempting a comeback in the second frame, Spencer Giuliano's goal from a corner kick in the 60th minute cut the deficit in half. The Cannoneers leveled the score at 66:39 from another corner, as Goldman got his brace by latching onto a cross from Bryan Hong-Dominguez. Pratt goalkeeper Dimitrios Papagiannakopoulos (1-5-1) made some important saves to keep them in striking distance. His stop against Mondesir in the 47th minute kept the scoreline 3-1, and his save against Mondesir at 62:56 preserved a one-goal deficit. Analyzing the draw, the Cardinals should take pride in their second-half display, attempting to extend the while not conceding many chances from open play. Indeed, York outshot the 10-7 in the second frame. For the whole match, York had the edge in shots (21-12) and shots on (7-6).

"The game plan was to press Pratt from the opening whistle. We had some very good practices this week and the guys executed."-coach Boothe asserted

Individually, Mondesir threatened Pratt throughout, and he now has a goal contribution in all the games he participated in this season.

"We love having Kervin on the team, he plays at a very high level and as a senior player his experience is much needed among this young roster."-added Boothe

Sanchez provided another industrious midfield performance, and his assist put him up to four goal contributions this campaign, second on the team.

Moving forward, the Cardinals (2-8-1) are looking to schedule more non-conference matches to complete their season.
