@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer challenges New Jersey City

York College closes out its 2022 schedule next Wednesday (Nov. 9) with a non-conference matchup against City College of New Yo

JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY -- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer fell to the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (10-5-2) 7-0 on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference encounter at Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.

An even affair in the opening twenty minutes, midfielder Kervin Mondesir had two shots for York to open the scoring. The first chance that fell to Mondesir came at 5:45, as his shot from outside the 18-yard box ended up in New Jersey City goalkeeper Nick Linebaugh's hands (9-5-2). In the 13th minute, Mondesir's free-kick forced Linebaugh to make a stretching save down to his right. 

The Gothic Knights broke the tie at 21:43, as Maximo Vargas drove home a hard low shot past York goalkeeper Ahmed Algendy (1-5-0). Vargas turned provider less than three minutes later, as his pass found Ryan Evande for the finish. Kelvin Alves made it 3-0 in the 37th minute, blasting home a low-driven shot.

New Jersey City controlled proceedings in the second frame. Vargas added a second goal forty seconds in, and Jorfaek Fallas hit the net at 46:49. Pau Torrebella made it 6-0 in the 62nd minute, and he completed his brace 18 minutes later. 

For York, Mondesir and defenders Jaden Brown and Mert Zor all had more than two shots on target. Mondesir finished with three, and the defenders each tested Linebaugh twice. 

Overall, the Gothic Knights had advantages in shots (31-12), shots on target (16-7), and corners (6-2). Algendy saved a match-high eight shots.

Moving forward, the Cardinals (2-9-1) will play their final game of the 2022 schedule next Wednesday (Nov. 9) against the City College of New York Beavers.
