www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball scored a season-high 118 points Wednesday evening on the road, but were unable to keep pace with the Hunter College Hawks (6-8, 2-3 CUNYAC) in a 123-118 CUNYAC setback inside Hunter Sportsplex. The 118 points were the most for the Cardinals since putting up 108 against CCNY on February 3, 2013.
How it Happened
- After playing from behind in the opening minutes, the Cardinals stayed firm to erase a six-point deficit (13-7) by scoring 10 of the game's next 16 points to grab a 17-16 lead off a Mert Zor layup at the 14:14 mark.
- Both teams traded leads until York went on a 10-3 run to pull ahead with 7:20 left for a 35-28 advantage.
- Quran Dublin scored seven of his 11 first-half points to help the Cardinals close out the final 1:19 to hold a 65-55 advantage at intermission.
- Playing with the lead for a stretch of 22:03, York led by as many as 13 points (76-63) during the second-half before Hunter regained the advantage (98-96) on a Joash Nyarko three-pointer with 6:25 showing on the clock.
- Trailing 90-80, Cormac Reilly dropped in a layup at the 10:09 mark to spark an 18-6 scoring spree for Hunter.
- With the game knotted at 100, Hunter used a 13-4 spurt to build a nine-point lead (113-104) with 3:10 left.
- Down 121-112, York closed the gap to four with a layup by Devine Chisholm followed by a Dublin trey to cap a 5-0 run with 14 seconds remaining.
- Chisholm misfired on a three-pointer with 12 seconds left as Hunter held on for the 123-117 final.
Inside the Box Score
Dublin poured in a game-high 26 points (10-of-20 FG, 5-of-5 FT) and added 11 rebounds and three steals to register his second double-double of the season. Zor netted a career-high 20 points off the bench.
Roki Mendoza Familia went for 17 points (7-of-10 FG) and 11 rebounds to notch his second double-double of the season.
Mambe Koureissi scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half. Chisholm finished with 15 points and five assists while
Olawale Kila scored 12 points.
Luka Jakic paced Hunter to victory with 20 points (11-of-14 FT) and 18 rebounds. Barrett Lowe and Jeremy Montrose both followed with 18 points.
The Cardinals converted on 53.8 percent from the field (43-of-80), 28.6 percent from three-point range (4-of-14) and 75 percent from the free-throw line (27-of-36) as Hunter landed 38.3 percent from the floor (36-of-94), 25.5 percent from long distance (13-of-51) and 77.6 percent from the charity stripe (38-of-49). York owned the edge in rebounding (55-53) and points in the paint (70-44) while Hunter outplayed the Cardinals in assists (18-9) steals (11-9), points off turnovers, (33-15), blocks, (3–0), bench points (48-36) and scored 30 second-chance points off 21 offensive rebounds.
