Dublin’s 34 rally @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball past Brooklyn, 91-82

York College travels Tuesday (Jan.25) to The Doghouse for a CUNYAC battle against John Jay College


BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball erased a 17-point halftime deficit Friday evening to top the defending CUNYAC champion Brooklyn College Bulldogs (2-13, 1-4 CUNYAC) on the road with a 91-82 win inside West Quad Center Gymnasium.  The victory marked York's first win against Brooklyn since January 11, 2018, snapping a five-game skid versus the Bulldogs.
 
How it Happened​​​​​​
  • Quran Dublin drilled a three-pointer to put York on the board 62 seconds in for a 3-2 lead. 
  • Both teams traded baskets in the early going with the game knotted at five at the 17:46 mark. 
  • The Bulldogs then rattled off 11-straight points as Zuric Harvey ignited the spurt by landing one of Brooklyn's three treys during the run to lead 16-5 with 15:19 remaining in the half. 
  • Trailing 29-12, Dublin scored six of his 11 first-half points during a span that saw York outscore Brooklyn, 14-9, to pull within nine (36-25). 
  • Brooklyn closed out the final 3:45 by scoring 12 of the game's next 16 points to lead 47-30 at intermission.  
  • The Cardinals raced out of the second-half gates with an 11-3 run as Dublin scored five to trim the deficit to nine (50-41). 
  • Dublin took over in the second half and scored 14 of York's 26 points to open the period, including a stretch of converting on four-straight field goals. 
  • Mert Zor sank a pair of free-throws at 14:28 to spark a Cardinal 9-1 spurt during a span of 1:35, capped by Mambe Koureissi's layup that made it a 59-58 game. 
  • Brooklyn pushed its lead back to six (66-60) with a 7-2 run. 
  • Over the next 3:43, York outplayed Brooklyn with a 9-3 run of its own to knot the game at 69 with 6:27 left. 
  • Playing from behind for a stretch of 31:58, the Cardinals regained a 71-70 lead 21 seconds later with a layup by Guillermo Hernandez
  • Hernandez then made a pair of free-throws to start a decisive 11-0 scoring spree to push the lead to nine (82-73) with 2:57 showing on the clock. 
  • Brooklyn got as close as six (86-80) down the stretch before Devine Chisholm scored five points in the final 62 seconds to preserve the nine-point win.
Inside the Box Score
Dublin finished the game with a season-high 34 points (13-of-28 FG, 4-of-6 3FG, 4-of-4 FT) and added eight rebounds, four assists and one steal to his performance.  Chisholm followed with 19 points (11-of-14 FT), six rebounds, six assists (one turnover) and two steals.  Hernandez was efficient in 22 minutes, contributing 15 points (6-of-6 FG, 3-of-3 FT), eight rebounds (five offensive), two blocks and one steal to the win.  Koureissi chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds

Brooklyn was led by Elisha Park's 33 points and 11 rebounds.  Harvey added 14 points and 11 assists while Noah Shy (13 points), Kayin Olajide (11 points) and David McFadden (10 points) scored in double figures.  

York concluded the evening making 45.1 percent from the field (32-of-71), 41.7 percent from three-point range (5-of-12) and 75.9 percent from the free-throw line (22-of-29) as Brooklyn hit on 42.2 percent of from the floor (27-of-64), 44.4 percent from long range (16-of-36) and 75 percent from the charity stripe (12-of-16).  The Cardinals dominated the glass, 41-27, scoring 19 second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds.  York also dished out 20 assists and limited its turnovers to finish with a season-low seven miscues.  The Cardinals held the advantage in points in the paint (44-22), steals (6-1) and points off turnovers (14-3).
