@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball opens home slate against Clark

York College returns to action at home on December 3 for its CUNYAC opener against Medgar Evers College


JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball scored 80 or more points for the third time in five games as the Cardinals opened their 2021-22 home schedule on Saturday with a 106-89 non-conference setback against the Clark University Cougars (5-0) from York College Gymnasium.  

How it Happened
  • The Cardinals broke the scoring ice six seconds in with a layup by Roki Mendoza Familia to give York the early lead. 
  • Both teams traded leads until Clark put together an 18-3 run to go up 29-16 with 8:33 showing on the first-half clock. 
  • York chipped away at a double-digit deficit in the closing minutes by knocking down 7-of-8 from the free-throw line to trail 42-38 at the break.
  • York played from behind for the final 34:41 as Clark raced out of the second-half gates with a 16-3 spurt to take a commanding 58-41 lead with 16:31 left. 
  • The Cougars grew its lead to as many as 26 points (82-56) with 9:21 remaining. 
  • Trailing by 21 points (100-79), Devine Chisholm netted a pair of free-throws to start a 10-0 Cardinal run, capped by Quran Dublin's triple at the 1:35 mark to pull York within 11 (100-89). 
  • Clark scored six-unanswered points to close out the final 60 seconds with a Bruce Saintilus trey and a trio of free-throws by Isaiah Taylor to settle the 106-89 final.  
Inside the Box Score
Dublin led York in scoring for the fouth time this season, pouring in 22 points (8-of-14 FG, 3-of-5 3FG).  Donald Hartley Jr. scored 14 of his season-high 20 points (7-of-12 FG, 2-of-3 3FG, 4-of-4 FT) in the second-half to go with a team-best four assists.  Chisholm followed with 15 points (9-of-11 FT), six rebounds and three assists.  Olawale Kila grabbed a team-leading six rebounds and scored nine points (career-high) to go with one steal and York's lone block off the bench.  Mert Zor nabbed a team-leading and career-high two steals and netted seven points (5-of-6 FT).   

Saintilus led all scorers with 25 points (6-of-12 FG, 10-of-10 FT) and added eight rebounds and three steals to Clark's win.  Taylor followed with 23 points (6-of-12 FG, 8-of-9 FT), six steals and five assists.  

York connected on a season-high 60.9 percent from the field (28-of-46) and 60 percent from three-point range (6-of-10), while knocking down 81.8 percent from the free-throw line (27-of-33).  Clark finished the game shooting 47.9 percent from the floor (34-of-71), 38.5 percent from deep (15-of-39) and 85.2 percent from the stripe (23-of-27).  York held the edge down low with a 38-34 scoring advantage in the paint.  The Cougars scored 35 points off 29 Cardinal turnovers.  Both teams drew even in blocks (1-1) while Clark outplayed York in steals (24-6), assists (25-14) and rebounds (32-26).
