@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball battles Baruch on Senior Day

York College closes out the regular season with a two-game road trip starting Wednesday (Feb. 12) at CCNY

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball closed out their 14-game home schedule Monday evening by celebrating Senior Day / School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs Appreciation Night prior to falling 82-71 to the Baruch College Bearcats (13-9, 7-5 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium.

Before the opening tap, senior Jean-Luc Etienne (2017-20) was recognized for his dedication to York College Athletics with the annual Senior Day Ceremony.

Trailing 10-8, York scored 10-unanswered points as all five starters contributed a field goal during that stretch to take an 18-10 lead with 12:28 left in the half.  Baruch answered with a 10-2 run to tie the game at 20 at the 9:04 mark. Following five-straight points from Donald Hartley, Jr., Baruch used a 13-0 spurt to go up by eight (33-25) with 4:09 left.  The Bearcats made the most of that stretch by holding York to 0-of-4 shooting from the floor and forced three turnovers.

After trailing by nine (41-32) at the break,  Hartley, Jr. drilled back-to-back 3-pointers followed by Akil Vaughn's layup to trim the Cardinal deficit to one (41-40).  York kept pushing and a pair of Mambe Koureissi free-throws gave the Cardinals a brief 46-45 lead. Baruch regained the lead for good with 11:52 left off the power of a 12-4 run.  York got as close as six (71-65) before Baruch put the game away with nine-unanswered points to make it a game-high 15-point lead (80-65) with 1:40 showing on the second-half clock.

Hartley, Jr. scored a team-leading 18 points off the bench, shooting 4-of-9 from 3-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.  Devine Chisholm registered 13 points and a game-high eight assists (two turnovers) as Jaye Bookhart went for 13 points and two steals.  In the paint, Vaughn tallied nine points (4-of-5 FG) and eight rebounds, and Koureissi compiled eight points and 10 rebounds (five offensive).

Adnan Bajrami erupted for a game-high 28 points (5-of-13 3FG) to go with six assists, five rebounds and three steals in leading Baruch to victory.  Sean Donnellan netted 13 points and Ryan Graziano registered nine points and seven assists off the bench.

York connected on 42.4 percent from the field (25-of-59), 40.9 from 3-point territory (9-of-22) and 70.6 percent from the free-throw line (12-of-17) while Baruch hit on 44.8 percent from the floor (30-of-67), 33.3 percent from beyond the arc (13-of-39) and 60 percent from the charity stripe (9-of-15).  The Cardinals edged Baruch in rebounds (39-38) as Baruch scored 24 second-chance points off 14 offensive boards. Baruch finished with the advantage in assists (27-17), steals (8-5), blocks (5-2), points off turnovers (25-12), points in the paint (28-20) and bench scoring (29-23).

The Cardinals (7-16, 3-9 CUNYAC) travel to Manhattan to open a two-game road trip Wednesday (Feb. 12) evening starting with a CUNYAC matchup against the City College of New York Beavers (3-19, 2-9 CUNYAC) at 7:30 p.m. inside Nat Holman Gymnasium.
