www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â York College men's and women's swimming combined to register 10 team-best times at home Tuesday evening in their CUNYAC finale against the John Jay College Bloodhounds (W:2-2, 1-2 CUNYAC) and Lehman College Lightning (M:3-5, 1-1 CUNYAC / W:4-5, 1-2 CUNYAC) inside York College Natatorium. . In the men's meet, Lehman outlasted York, 111-71, while the Cardinals lost decisions to John Jay, 103-65, and Lehman, 120-57.
The Cardinals posted team-best times in eight men's events led by three from
Alex Winter. Winter, who won the 50-meter freestyle (25.45) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:13.63) with York's top times, closed out the 200-meter freestyle relay by teaming with
Arafath Hussain,
Jeremy Sapeg and
Ti'Juan Boothe for first-place points in 2:02.36. Hussain and
Jaquan Eleazard both touched the wall second in the 100-meter freestyle (1:10.70) and 200-meter freestyle (3:12.03) events, respectively. Rounding out York's team-best times were Eleazard (100-meter backstroke, 1:26.66, 3rd place), Sapeg (100-meter butterfly, 2:11.41, 3rd place) and
Anthony Nazario, Jr. (400-meter freestyle, 7:32.22, 4th place), who each contributed during the team's productive meet in their respective events.
On the women's side,
Che'Rel Haywood placed first in three events to star for York. Haywood combined with
Mauricia Blake,
Kaithlyn Taylor and
Shanice Welcome to open the meet with a winning time of 2:37.84 in the 200-meter medley relay. She claimed victory in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:27.54), and also helped set one of two team-best times by swimming the fourth leg in the 200-meter freestyle relay with Welcome, Blake and Taylor to generate first-place points in 2:12.59. Welcome added a second-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle (32.42) while
Dorianny Rojas recorded York's season-best time of 2:13.37 in the 100-meter backstroke.Â
The Cardinals (M:0-6, 0-3 CUNYAC / W:0-9, 0-5 CUNYAC) close out its home schedule next Tuesday (Jan. 21) with a Senior Day showdown against the Purchase College Panthers (M: 3-8 / W: 6-8) inside York College Natatorium. Prior to the first event, seniors
