www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer scored first Saturday evening to set the tone in a 3-2 non-conference home win against the Clarks Summit University Defenders (1-4-0) from Aviator Field in Brooklyn.
The Cardinals capitalized on playing with the wind in the opening half to strike 12:14 in as
Marvin Mondesir fed
Hans Merilan for a breakaway goal to go up 1-0.
Shemar Green then doubled York's advantage 13:05 later by sending a laser from outside the box past goalie Jan Lomahan (1-4-0).
Leading 2-0 at intermission, Cardinal goalie Jasper McLeold (1-5-0) conceived a goal off the foot of Evan Michel, who bent a corner kick to slice Clark Summit's deficit in half at the 51:15 mark. Merilan broke through the Clarks Summit defense to reply with his first-career game-winning goal in the 59th minute for the 3-1 lead. The 3-2 final was settled in the 76th minute when Nathaniel Johnson found the back of the net by gathering a rebound in a crowded box for Clarks Summit.
McLeod turned away nine shots to earn York's win as Lomahan made five saves in defeat for the Defenders.
Clarks Summit finished with the advantage in shots (20-13), shots on goal (11-8) and corner kicks (8-3).
The Cardinals (1-5-0) remain at home Wednesday (Sept. 18) for a non-conference matchup against the William Paterson University Pioneers (2-2-1) at 2 p.m. from Aviator Field.
