BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer closed out their brief two-match homestand Wednesday afternoon trailing 2-0 at the half before facing a 7-0 non-conference decision to the William Paterson University Pioneers (3-2-1) from Aviator Field in Brooklyn.

The Pioneers broke the scoring ice 9:44 in with Keysean Brant-Sharp converting a penalty kick past Cardinal goalie Jasper McLeod (1-6-0) for the game-winning goal.  Moments later, Hans Merilan put York in the shot column at 11:03 with an attempt that was turned away by Pioneer goalie Thomas Hatch (2-0-0). Merilan later tested Hatch with back-to-back shots on target in the 31 minute before William Paterson doubled its advantage in the 39th minute as Yachine Wahnon knocked home a rebound to make it a 2-0 game at intermission. 

William Paterson added a handful of goals during a second half that saw the Pioneers control a 16-1 edge in shots.    

McLeod grabbed nine of his 13 saves in the first half while Hatch and Gabriel Reyes combined for William Paterson's shutout, with Hatch making five saves to claim the win.

The Pioneers finished with the advantage in shots (34-5), shots on goal (20-5) and corner kicks (6-2).

York (1-6-0) returns to action next Wednesday (Sept. 25) for a 4 p.m. road matchup in its CUNYAC opener against the Lehman College Lighting (5-1-0) from South Field in Bronx.
