www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball captured a 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 25-15, 25-23) win Saturday over the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-7,0-1 CUNYAC) to open CUNYAC play after falling in three sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-8) in their home opener to the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (3-2) inside York College Gymnasium. The Cardinals open CUNYAC play with a win for the first time since 2016, when York swept Medgar Evers 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 26-24).

After losing the opening set, the Cardinals battled Medgar Evers in a second stanza that proved to be the turning point of the match featuring 12 ties and nine lead changes on the way to York grabbing a 25-21 win. The momentum carried in the third set as York hit a match-best .129 on its way to .024 for the match compared to Medgar Evers' -.058. The Cardinals also owned Medgars Evers in kills (37-19), aces (11-6), assists (35-15), and digs (60-49).
Alexandra Taveras sparked the Cardinals with 27 assists, eight kills, nine digs and three aces to finish with 11 points while
Chrissy Hobson posted 15.5 points on 12 kills and 1.5 blocks.
Dorianny Rojas scooped a match-high 15 digs to go with six kills, 15 digs.
Alessandra Villota added 13 digs in addition to four kills and two aces as
Kiara Gonzalez chipped in three aces.
Sashamoni Burnett led the Cougars with 13 points on nine kills.
St. Joseph's 3, York 0
In the first match of the day, both teams battled through a competitive first set that featured four lead changes as York hit nailed down five kills in the set before finishing the match attacking at -.101. The Bears closed out the third set hitting .200 to finish the match at .048 to hold the advantage in points (37-11), kills (24-10), aces (13-0), assists (23-8). Both teams drew even in digs as Hobson tallied the game's lone block.
Hobson and Villota paced the Cardinals with three points each as Villota tallied three kills. Gonzalez had five assists and Rojas scooped nine digs.
Briana Marrazzo served seven aces and registered 11 points to lead St. Joseph's to victory. Valentina Urgo slammed five kills while Kaitlyn Intindola directed the Bears on offense with a match-high 19 assists.
The Cardinals (1-5-0) remain at home to continue their four-match homestand with a CUNYAC showdown against the Lehman College Lightning (1-9, 0-2 CUNYAC) at 7 p.m. inside York College Gymnasium.
