JAMAICA, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball continued their four-match homestand Tuesday evening with a three-set (25-14, 25-14, 25-12) non-conference setback to the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (6-1) inside York College Gymnasium.
On paper, York had its best hitting set of the evening in the opening stanza, collecting six kills. However, the second set featured five ties and four lead changes as Sarah Lawrence edged York in kills, 8-6. The Cardinals finished the match hitting -.148 while Sarah Lawrence attacked at a .238 clip highlighted by registering a .294 final set percentage to seal the win. York finished with the 28-24 advantage in digs while Sarah Lawrence outplayed the Cardinals in points (40-17), kills (25-14), aces (15-3) and assists (23-14).
Chrissy Hobson led the Cardinals with seven points, six kills and one ace.
Alexandra Taveras followed with four kills and eight assists to direct York's offense.
Kiara Gonzalez and
Emily Cabrera also served aces. On defense,
Alessandra Villota scooped a team-best eight digs while Gonzalez and Taveras both added six.
Melanie Coleman paced Sarah Lawrence to victory with a match-high 17 points and 12 kills. Gabrielle Hegedus collected five aces while Isabel Pecora dished out 19 assists to captain the Gryphon offense.
The Cardinals (2-3, 1-0 CUNAYC) return to CUNYAC play Thursday (Sept. 19) at home against the Lehman College Lightning (1-9, 0-2 CUNYAC) with first serve slated for 7 p.m. inside York College Gymnasium.
