Softball tallies eight runs to test Valley Forge

York College remains on the road Tuesday (Apr. 9) for a non-conference doubleheader against Sarah Lawrence College

VALLEY FORGE, PA --- (www.YORKCARDINALS.com) York College softball tied a season high with eight runs scored in Sunday's finale, but were unable to keep pace with the University of Valley Forge Patriots (3-12), falling 11-0 and 22-8 in non-conference action from Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

Game 1: Valley Forge 11, York 0 (5 Inn.)
Cayleen Conrad (3-for-3, 3 R, 2 RBI) led off the opening frame with a single and scored what proved to be the game-winning run two batters later on a RBI double by Lindsay LeSueur (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 3 R) for the 1-0 lead on Cardinal starter Rosenery Chicaiza (L, 0-5: 4 IP, 6 H, 11 R, 5 ER, 7 BB).

The Patriots broke the game open with a two-run double by Conrad as part of a six-run second inning to grow an 8-0 advantage.

York threatened in the third, but were unable to capitalize as Shamonie Miller (1-for-2, 2 SB) and Dorianny Rojas both slapped one-out singles before LeSueur (W, 2-5: 5 IP, 3 H, 7 K) retired two-straight Cardinals to escape out of the jam.

Chicaiza stroked a single in the fourth inning for York's final hit of the game.

Miller reached base to lead off the fifth on an error by Conrad in left field.  She then stole second and advanced to third prior to being stranded after LeSueur fanned her third batter of the frame to settle the 11-0 final.

Game 2: Valley Forge 22, York 8 (5 Inn.)
Isis Funez (3-for-4, 2 RBI, R) put the Cardinals in the hit column with a one-out single and came around to score on Lesueur (W, 3-5: 3 IP, 5 H, 2 R, ER, 4 K) two batters later as Ashley Alcantara single for the first inning lead.

Valley Forge answered with 11 runs in the home half of the first off Chicaiza (L, 0-6: 4 IP, 23 H, 22 R, 20 ER, 3 BB).

Lesueur (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2 R) opened the Patriot scoring with a two-run triple while a Tiffany Tharp (4-for-5, 4 RBI, 3 R) RBI single 10 batters later scored Conrad (2-for-4, 4 R) for the game-winning run to put Valley Forge up 9-1.

Trailing 17-1 in the fourth inning, York responded with five runs off Conrad.  Chicaiza singled and scored before Rojas (2-for-3, 2 RBI, R, BB) laced a two-run single and Funez drilled a two-run double to cap the big inning.

Miller closed the scoring books in the fifth inning with a single to advance Melissa Noble (0-for-1, 2 R, 2 BB) and Mary Cuevas (0-for-1, 2 R, 2 BB) across home plate.

The Cardinals (0-10) remain on the road Tuesday (Apr. 9) for a non-conference doubleheader against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (12-11) at 3 p.m. from Mary Levine Field in Bronxville, New York.
