Bellerose, NY —York College softball lost a pair of CUNYAC home games Saturday afternoon by the count of 20-0 and 19-3 against the College of Staten Island Dolphins (2-10, 2-0 CUNYAC) from Padavan-Preller Field in Bellerose, New York.
In the opener, York (0-8, 0-6 CUNYAC) starter
Rosenery Chicaiza (L, 0-4) held the Dolphins to a 7-0 lead until 11 crossed home plate in the fourth inning to extend Staten Island's lead to 18. York threatened in the third with a
Dorianny Rojas one-out single to load the bases. However, Alsion Meagher (W, 1-0) retired back-to-back batters to escape out of the jam by stranding three Cardinals.
In game two, Cardinal starter
Dorianny Rojas (L, 0-5) gave up four runs in the first inning. Trailing 3-0,
Nicole Ovelheira answered with some run support for York with a two-run double, and then scored two batters later on a
Nicolasa Restituyo RBI single to slice the deficit to one (4-3) in the home half of the opening frame. Despite surrendering three runs, Vanessa Porto (W, 1-0) worked three innings to claim Staten Island's win as the Dolphins capitalized on nine errors made by York.
The Cardinals are scheduled to return to action Sunday (Mar. 31) against the Cairn University Highlanders (5-9) in a 12 p.m. non-conference doubleheader from Padavan Preller Field.
