www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball evened up their record at 2-2 on the young season to return to .500 Friday evening with an 84-76 non-conference road win against the Clarks Summit University Defenders (0-5) from Phelps Student Center in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.
In a first-half that featured 24 lead changes and 10 ties, York jumped ahead for good with a 12-4 run from 7:36 to 3:00 to make it a 35-29 game. Moments later,
Devine Chisholm sank a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to send the Cardinals into intermission with a 44-37 advantage.
After Clarks Summit pulled within four (46-42) on a Trice High triple at the 18:32 mark, a layup by
Donald Hartley, Jr. capped a 7-0 Cardinal run to stretch to lead to a game-high 11 points (53-42) with 16:51 showing on the second-half clock. Playing with the lead for the final 24:42, York pushed its margin to double-digits on four separate occasions before Clarks Summit put together a 17-8 spurt as Marcus Dixon scored five points in 57 seconds to trim the Defenders deficit to one (75-74) with 1:01 remaining. York played it cool in crunchtime to outscore Clarks Summit 9-2 in the final 52 seconds led by Hartley, Jr.'s five points during that stretch.
Hartley Jr. poured in a career-high 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field (3-of-4 3FG) to lead all scorers. Chisholm followed with 21 points (5-of-9 FG) and sank a career-high 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Jaye Bookhart chipped in with 12 points and career highs of five rebounds and three steals.
Akil Vaughn added 10 points (4-of-6 FG) and 10 rebounds to post his second-career double-double. Mambe Kourresi tallied nine points, five rebounds and two steals while
DaQuan Workman contributed seven points off the bench.
Dixon scored 22 points (8-of-16 FG) and Gideon Agbo went for 15 (8-of-11 FG) to lead Clarks Summit. Gabe Lazarre ignited Clarks Summit off the bench with game highs of six assists and four steals.
York connected on 45.9 percent from the floor (28-of-61), 50 percent from three-point territory (5-of-10) and 71.9 percent from the charity stripe (23-of-32) as Clarks Summit landed 41.5 percent from the field (27-of-65), 20 percent from long distance (4-of-20) and 72 percent from the line (18-of-25). The Cardinals outrebounded Clarks Summit, 36-31, scoring 13 second-chance points off 10 offensive boards. York also scored 21 points off 19 Defender miscues while holding the advantage in
