PHOENIXVILLE, PA --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball strung together solid runs throughout Tuesday's non-conference match against the University of Valley Forge Patriots (5-20), but were outhit on the road to fall in straight sets (27-25, 25-10, 25-21) in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
The Cardinals fell behind in the opening set and made a late push with a 10-3 spurt to grab a brief 25-24 lead before Valley Forge scored three-straight points to take the opening set. York also played from behind most of the third set as an 8-2 Cardinal run sliced their deficit to three (22-19) while the Patriots answered with three of the next five points to secure the sweep.
Chrissy Hobson paced York with a match-high 10 kills to go with 12 digs to post her second-career double-double.
Alexandra Taveras went for 14 digs (career-high) and 12 assists (match-high) to collect her first-career double-double.
Dorianny Rojas added nine digs and served three aces.
Hannah Hawryluk delivered a match-high six aces to lead Valley Forge. Melanie-Ann Torres tallied 25 digs to solidify the Patriot defensive front.
York hit .061 in the first set before tapering off to finish attacking at a rate of -.057 compared to Valley Forge's .096. The Patriots also outplayed York in points (43-24), kills (27-18), aces (13-4), blocks (3-2), assists (26-17) and digs (63-57).
The Cardinals (5-10) return to the court Friday (Oct. 25) to close out their home schedule with a Senior Day matchup against the College of Saint Elizabeth Eagles (7-8) at 7 p.m. inside York College Gymnasium. Prior to first serve, senior
