@yorkcardinals Women’s Volleyball battles Saint Elizabeth on Senior Day

York College travels Saturday (Sept. 26) to Mahwah, New Jersey for a tri-match against Ramapo College and Brooklyn College


JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball closed out their home schedule Friday evening against the College of Saint Elizabeth Eagles (8-9) with a non-conference setback in straight sets (25-15, 25-10, 26-24) on Senior Day inside York College Gymnasium.  Prior to first serve, senior Dorianny Rojas (2018-19) was recognized for her dedication to York College Athletics with the annual Senior Day Ceremony.

The Cardinals jumped ahead with early leads in the second and third sets and played their best ball during a third stanza that saw a combined nine lead changes and 15 ties.  York benefited late from Saint Elizabeth's serving and attacking errors to grab a 24-23 lead before the Eagles scored three unanswered points to close out the match.  

Alexandra Taveras paced York with five points on three kills and two aces to go along with four assists and six digs.  Chrissy Hobson added three kills, one block and five digs.

Leading the way for the Eagles was Stephanie Mitarontonda, who racked up match-highs of nine kills and 10 digs.  Yas Muhammad served six aces as Maura Farley dished out 28 assists to move Saint Elizabeth's offense.   

York hit even at .000 in the first set before finishing at -.119, compared to Saint Elizabeth attacking at a rate of .122 for the match.  Both teams drew even in blocks (2-2) while Saint Elizabeth finished with the advantage in points (51-11), kills (33-7), aces (16-2), assists (33-7) and digs (36-23).  

The Cardinals (5-11) are back in action Saturday (Oct. 26) for a non-conference tri-match hosted by Ramapo College from Bradley Center in Mahwah, New Jersey.  York opens with the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (13-8) at 12 p.m. before taking on the Roadrunners (10-4) at 2 p.m.
