@yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer soars past Medgar Evers for Senior Day win

York College returns to the pitch Saturday (Oct. 19) for non-conference tilt at University of Valley Forge

BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer scored in the opening minute for the third time this season and continued to build their lead on a rainy and windy Wednesday afternoon to compile a 12-0 CUNYAC Senior Day win over the Medgar Evers College (0-12-0, 0-5 CUNYAC) from Aviator Field.  Prior to opening kickoff, Ina Okoro (2019) was celebrated for her dedication to York College Athletics with the annual Senior Day Ceremony.  York has now won back-to-back games for the fourth time in program history and tied a school record for goals that was previously set against Medgar Evers in 2013 and 2015.

The Cardinals broke the scoring ice 25 seconds in to tie a program record for fastest goal scored with Taylor Bellmon's second tally of the season.  York then doubled its advantage 1:05 later with Mary Cuevas' first-career goal to make it a 2-0 game on Cougar goalie Dana Barbara Jecrois (0-1-0).  Wydny Vallere (13') and Gisselle Flores-Barajas (32') both added goals while Bellmon finished the first half with six goals for York's 9-0 lead at intermission.  Bellmon secured her third goal in the 36th minute for York's first hat trick since 2018 (Diana Velasquez, Oct. 17 vs. Medgar Evers) while her six tallies broke the program record of five.

Flores-Barajas opened the second-half scoring with goals in the 48th and 52nd minutes as York posted its fourth-career game with two hat tricks.  Moments later, Mary Meshanski joined in on the scoring with Cuevas finding her in the box at 55:25 to settle the 12-0 final.

York finished with the edge in shots (31-0), shots on goal (23-0) and corner kicks (6-0).  The Cardinal defense also held Medgar Evers without a shot during a 6-0 triumph on October 17, 2018.

Cardinal goalie Chelsea Vasquez (2-9-0) was untested to earn York's first shutout since 2018 when Stephanie Gutierrez posted a cleansheet against Yeshiva University (Oct. 21).  Jecrois turned away 11 shots in defeat for Medgar Evers.

The Cardinals (2-9-0, 1-3-0 CUNAYC) return to non-conference play Saturday (Oct. 19) on the road against the University of Valley Forge Patriots (3-9) at 2 p.m. from UVF Field in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
