www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer buried three goals Saturday afternoon but were unable to hold off the University of Valley Forge Patriots (4-9) in a 4-3 non-conference setback on the road from UVF Field in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
Coming off Wednesday's program-tying performance of 12 goals versus Medgar Evers College, York scored their second-highest total of the season as
Taylor Bellmon continued her surge with a pair of goals on the day.
Cayleen Conrad broke the scoring ice 6:21 in to give Valley Forge the early lead. York answered in the 30th minute to beat Patriot goalie Ashley Depointe (4-8-0) on a
Gisselle Flores-Barajas score to send a 1-1 game into intermission.
Bellmon opened the second-half scoring in the 58th minute for York's brief 2-1 lead before Conrad fed Brandy Del Gallego at 67:58 for the equalizer. Conrad then made it a 3-2 lead at the 70:43 mark prior to Bellmon's game-tying tally 1:57 later. The decisive goal was scored in the 79th minute with Conrad beating Cardinal goalie
Chelsea Vasquez (2-10-0) for the game-winning goal to net her third tally of the day. York was unable to capitalize on a pair of attempts by Flores-Barajas in the 81st and 82nd minutes.
The Patriots finished with the advantage in shots (22-20) while York outplayed the Patriots in shots on goal (11-9) and corner kicks (3-1). York was paced by Flores-Barajas, who took 10 shots (three on goal) and Bellmon's eight attempts (six on goal).
Vasquez stopped five shots in defeat for York while Depointe made eight saves for Valley Forge.
The Cardinals (2-10-0, 1-3-0 CUNYAC) close out CUNYAC play Wednesday (Oct. 23) evening with a 7 p.m. showdown against the CCNY Beavers (5-7-0, 2-1-0) from Randall's Island Park Field 10.
