Men’s Basketball drops CUNYAC tilt to Brooklyn

JAMAICA, NY --- Despite scoring three players in double-figures, York College men's basketball dropped an 88-62 CUNYAC decision Wednesday evening to the visiting Brooklyn College Bulldogs (11-7, 6-3 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium.

The Cardinals (6-13, 2-8 CUNYAC) started hot as Devine Chisholm and Darin Dove both connected from three-point range to help build a 14-6 advantage.  Brooklyn countered with a 13-2 run from 13:54 to 10:26 to go up by three (19-16).  After Maliqe John's layup gave York a brief 23-21 lead, the Bulldogs went on a 24-5 scoring spree to build a 17-point lead (45-28) with 1:56 remaining.  Both teams played even for the final 1:29 as Brooklyn took a 49-32 lead into the break.

York got as close as 16 points in the second before Brooklyn played with a 20-point lead for the final 12:07.  The Bulldogs used a 15-3 run to build a game-high 31-point cushion (76-45) with 7:28 showing on the second-half clock.  York rallied with a 14-4 spurt sparked by Akil Vaughn's layup to trim its deficit to 21 (80-59) with 3:12 left.

Vaughn paced York with 13 points (6-of-10 FG), nine rebounds and two blocks.  Dove totaled 11 points and seven rebounds while Luca Tamer scored nine of his career-high 11 points (6-of-8 FT) in the second half.  Taishaun Forehand-Jenkins' five assists directed the offense.
