Women’s Basketball wraps up non-conference slate with NYU home loss

JAMAICA, NY --- York College women's basketball went down early and were unable to recover as the New York University Violets (9-4) came away with a 102-54 win in the Cardinals' non-conference finale Tuesday evening inside York College Gym.
 
Mac-Dege Dessources dropped in a layup 36 seconds in to give York (3-14) a 4-0 advantage for its largest lead of the game.  NYU answered with a 14-0 run before Dessources' layup pulled the Cardinals within 12 (18-6) with 4:08 remaining in the opening quarter.  The Violets closed out the final 4:01 with 15-unanswered points to hold a 33-6 lead heading into the second period.  NYU went up by as many as 34 (46-12) in the opening half prior to Sheahna Roshcer scoring five-straight points to ignite a 9-1 Cardinal run to chop their deficit to 26 (47-21) with 3:18 left.  

Leading by 30 at intermission (57-27), NYU coasted to a 48-point win.  

Roshcer poured in 13 points to pace York.  Dessources and Fatomata Trawalleh both scored 11 as Dayana Jacome grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds.  

Katie Foos erupted for a game-high 27 points (7-of-12 3FG) to lead the Violets.  Janean Cuffee and Lauren Koyama totaled 18 points and 13, respectively. 

The Cardinals connected on 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the field, 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from three-point rage and 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from the free-throw line.  NYU finished at 52.7 percent (39-of-74) from the floor, 44.1 percent (15-of-34) from long distance and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the charity stripe.  The Violets owned the edge in assists (28-9), steals (10-4), blocks (3-1) and a +12 rebounding edge (45-33).  

The Cardinals (2-6 CUNYAC) continue their three-game CUNYAC homestand Friday (Jan. 18) at 5:30 p.m. against the Hunter College Hawks (8-8, 7-1 CUNYAC).  York will make a push for a spot in the CUNYAC Championship by playing five of their final eight regular-season games in Jamaica.
