BROOKLYN, N.Y.-- The York College men's volleyball team picked up a straight sets victory over St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn by a score of 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-19) on the road Thursday night.
Sophomore Kevin Campbell had a big night, recording 13 kills and a .360 hitting percentage. He recorded more than half of York's total kills on the night (24). The Cardinals were also very strong in the service game, finishing with 14 aces. Philton Paul had four aces and Akeem George, Adil Maji and Akil Vaughn each had three aces. On the defensive side, Wolf Metellus led York with five digs and Vaughn finished with two blocks.
In the first set, York trailed 16-13 but would go on to score ten straight points to move ahead 23-13, before eventually taking the set. York benefited from some sloppy St. Joseph's play, with eight of the ten points coming on errors.
The second set featured two big runs for York. The Cardinals scored seven unanswered to go up 8-3 early on, before scoring another seven straight to take a commanding 15-6 advantage.
The final set was tight early on, but Akeem George would record two aces and a kill during a 6-0 run to help York clinch the victory.
York is now 3-11, while St. Joseph's is 0-9. The Cardinals return home on Saturday for a CUNYAC tri-match. York will host CCNY at 12 p.m. and Hunter College at 4 p.m. CCNY and Hunter will battle it out at 2 p.m.
