JAMAICA, N.Y.- On a cold Sunday afternoon, the York College women's softball team hosted Baruch College for a doubleheader. York lost the first game with a score of 17-4 and lost the second game, 21-3.
The winning pitcher for the first game was Cassandra Lagana, who pitched five innings and struck out nine batters. She also had two hits in four at bats with two RBIs. Baruch's Chae Padron was the team's best player, driving in three runs and going 4-for-5. Although York was down by a lot of runs, in the last inning the Cardinals packed on three runs, capped off by an RBI double from
Allison Ahmed, but it was not enough to catch up to Baruch.
Game two started off closer than the first game. The Cardinals bats came alive in the first inning. Junior
Nicole Ovelheira connected with a two-RBI double to cut Baruch's lead in half (4-2). Catcher
Gabriela Alvarez grounded out to second, scoring Ovelheira and bringing her team closer to Baruch.
From that inning on, York would not be able to score any more runs as Baruch opened up the score and eventually would win with a final score of 21-3. Baruch's center fielder Danielle Petrunti and third basemen Dung Ha, would be their team's best players, combining for a total of 8 RBIs and 5 hits. The winning pitcher for this game was Victoria Kisling who struck out 10 batters.
Yorks next game is against Hunter College as they host a doubleheader tomorrow at 3 p.m.
