JAMAICA, N.Y.—Despite keeping it close early on in the game, the York College women's basketball team could not keep up with Hunter College as the Hawks won by a score of 85-51.
The Hawks (16-5, 10-4 CUNYAC) used a balanced attack to knock off the Cardinals. Jade Aponte had 16 points, while Ashley Arias finished with 12 points. Ashley Yu scored ten points and had six rebounds.
Karen Bellamy led York (5-16, 3-10 CUNYAC) with 18 points and five rebounds, while
Dayana Jacome scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
York was holding its own against a talented Hunter team for most of the first half. A
Dayana Jacome jumper with 6:32 to play the half put the Cardinals down just five points (23-18). But any thoughts of an upset for York were short-lived as Hunter scored the final eight points of the half and went up by 16 at halftime.
The Hawks did not let up off the gas in the second half and outscored York 23-11 in the third quarter to put the game well out of reach.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at CCNY.
