JAMAICA, N.Y.—After falling behind early, the York College men's volleyball team made things interesting, but ultimately lost to New Jersey City University, 3-1 (25-15, 25-10, 23-25, 25-17) at home on Thursday.
The Cardinals got into a 2-0 hole after struggling through the first two sets. But the Cardinals battled in a back-and-forth third set and ultimately won to force a fourth set. The Cardinals trailed 23-22 in the third set, but scored the final three points thanks to three NJCU errors.
In the fourth, York got into a big deficit, dropping the first ten points. York picked up its play and cut it to 15-10, but the deficit would be too much to overcome.
York was led by
Frederis Tapia, who finished with eight kills and six digs.
Kevin Campbell recorded eight digs and three blocks and
Akeem George had four kills and two blocks.
Julian Moreira had a match-high 12 kills to lead the Gothic Knights, who improve to 1-1 with the win.
The Cardinals had difficulty stopping NJCU's service game, as the Gothic Knights served up 20 aces. York did have a strong game at the net though, finishing with nine team blocks on the night.
York (0-3) will be off until next Saturday, February 10 when they host Sarah Lawrence at 12 p.m.
