JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's volleyball team had little trouble picking up its first win of the season Saturday, as they swept Sarah Lawrence College, 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-14).
Freshman
Mambe Koureissi had an outstanding game, recording 10 kills with no errors in 12 attempts for a hitting percentage of .833. He also added three blocks on defense. Setter
Adil Manji finished with 15 assists and six service aces and
Frederis Tapia had five kills and two blocks.
Akil Vaughn chipped in four aces and three blocks.
York was never threatened in this one as they held Sarah Lawrence to negative hitting percentages in each set. The Gryphons had just one kill in each of the first two sets. Sarah Lawrence played better in the third set, recording six kills. However, York offset that by finishing with eight kills and a .700 hitting percentage in the final set. The match took only fifty minutes to complete.
York's record now stands at 1-3, while Sarah Lawrence is 0-3. The Cardinals will be at Wilkes University on Wednesday for a pair of matches. They will take on Misericordia University at 6 p.m. and Wilkes at 8 p.m.
