PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — After winning their first two games of the season on their home floor, the York College (N.Y.) men's basketball team (3-0) traveled to St. Joseph's College-Long Island (0-1) on Thursday night and came away with a convincing 64-48 victory.
A Mike Harris layup for the Golden Eagles tied the score at 10 with 12 minutes to go in the first half and the two teams were neck-and-neck, unable to gain an edge for most of the period. However, York concluded the first on an 8-2 run, with four of the eight from Taishaun Forehand-Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Thomas Jefferson), for a 29-25 advantage at intermission.
Another 8-2 spurt over the first five minutes of the second extended the Cardinals' lead to double-digits at 37-27 (15:07). Jean-Luc Ettiene (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) buried back-to-back jumpers for York and their lead reached 13 (47-34) with just under 10 minutes to play. The Cardinals didn't look back, securing their first double-digit and road victory of the season.
Jenkins put up a team-high 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting as well as five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Stephan Cadet (Jamaica, N.Y./Hampton) chipped in 11 points and five boards, Luca Tamer (Queens, N.Y./Maspeth) notched seven points off the bench, and Akil Vaughn (Georgetown, Guyana/St. Roses) pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds (five points).
The Cardinals are back in action at the Hamilton College Tip-Off in Clinton, New York on Saturday (Nov. 17) taking on Morrisville State College at 6 p.m.
