CLINTON, N.Y. — The York College (N.Y.) men's basketball team (3-1) took on Morrisville State College (2-1) in the opening round of the Hamilton College Tip-Off on Saturday night and took home their first loss of the season, 87-73.

Darin Dove (Bronx, N.Y./Samuel Gompers) scored the first eight Cardinal points as he kept his team within striking distance (10-8) five minutes into the game. Brandon Herriot (Queens, N.Y./Martin Van Buren) then nailed back-to-back triples to give York a 16-13 lead. However, Morrisville immediately put up 13 unanswered points to give themselves a double-digit lead (26-16) late in the first half. Dove didn't let the Cardinals fall easily though, scoring 10 of his team's final 12 points in the period to bring the deficit to just three (38-35) at intermission.

The contest remained close for the start of the second until Morrisville put up six-straight points with 13 minutes to go, bringing their advantage to 61-48. They didn't look back, outshooting the Cardinals 54.6%-36.1% in the second to come away with a double-digit victory.

Dove dropped a game-high 30 points on 9-for-15 shooting and 6-for-10 shooting from deep. Herriot put up 14 points off the bench and Taishaun Forehand-Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Thomas Jefferson) added nine points and five assists in defeat.

Next up for the Cardinals is a matchup with host Hamilton College on Sunday (Nov. 18) beginning at noon.
