JAMAICA, N.Y. — The York College (N.Y.) women's volleyball team (0-17) hosted New Jersey City University (8-14) for Senior Night on Friday and lost 3-0 in straight sets. The Cardinals honored seniors
Argenis Morales and
Nicolasa Restituyo in a pre-game ceremony as they played their final home game at the York College Gym.
York was within one at 5-4 early in the first set, but the Gothic Knights took control from there and finished the set with a 7-0 run featuring two Georgina Rayo service aces to win 25-11. Set number two was all NJCU as they raced out to a 12-2 lead and didn't look back taking the frame by a lopsided score of 25-6.
The third stanza was a very close battle as York maintained an 8-7 advantage early on after a kill from Morales. A kill from
Chayana Jimenez tied it for York at 14-14 and, after going back down by one,
Shamonie Miller slammed a kill to knot the score back up at 15. The Gothic Knights proved to be too much, however, as they came out on top 25-17 to complete the sweep.
Miller led the squad with four kills while adding four digs and an assist. Morales chipped in three kills and fellow senior Restituyo added a kill of her own. Jimenez did a little of everything with two kills, an assist, an ace, and three digs. Meanwhile,
Kassandra Diaz topped the Cardinals in digs (6) and assists (4).
Next up for the Cardinals is a road match at Brooklyn College next Tuesday (Oct. 23) at 6 p.m.
