NEW YORK, N.Y.—The York College men's basketball team led for most of the game but faltered late and fell to Hunter College, 82-73, on the road Tuesday night.
York led by as many as 13 points, but Hunter outscored York 45-31 in the second half, including a 20-6 advantage over the final five minutes of action to steal the victory.
Hunter's George Keener and Matt Franks each scored 21 points to lead the Hawks to victory, while Ameer Lukac finished with 17 points and 12 boards.
In defeat, York was led by
Ryan Smart, who recorded his third straight double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing ten rebounds.
Edwin Sainvil scored 20 points—his fourth outing of 20 or more points this season.
Reggie Outlaw had nine points off the bench and
Jean Joseph had eight points and eight rebounds.
The Cardinals were sharp in the first half, shooting 50 percent from the field and making five three-pointers, which included an Outlaw three that gave them a 13-point lead late in the first half.
In the second half, Hunter picked up their play, making 50 percent of their shots and 12 of 13 shots from the free throw line. The Hawks slowly cut into York's lead and eventually pulled ahead by one point with just under nine minutes to play.
The Cardinals eventually went back ahead by five points, but from there Hunter would dominate the final minutes. Strong free throw shooting coupled with some good shooting from Lukac down the stretch would help the Hawks get the win.
Hunter is now 8-5, 5-0 CUNYAC, while York is 4-8, 2-3 CUNYAC. The Cardinals will visit Brooklyn College on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
