Men’s Soccer Loses to Brooklyn College, 2-1, in OT

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—  The York College men's soccer team lost a tough game in overtime to Brooklyn College on Saturday afternoon with a final score of 2-1.

The Cardinals had possession most of the first half and had several great opportunities to score. Ivan Brito, Ebrahim Ramos, and Abdel Manahf Idrissou each had several shots on goal early but were not able to score off any of those chances.

York would finally get on the board first with a little over 10 minutes to go in the first half. Abdel Manahf Idrissou beat a Brooklyn defender to have a wide open shot on the goal. He snuck the ball past the goalie in the lower left corner to give York the lead late in the first half.

York would remain in control for the rest of the first half but began to lose some of their offensive energy halfway through the second half.  After a foul inside of the York goalie box, the Brooklyn Bulldogs were given the opportunity to tie up the game. Teon Chaumette stepped up to take the penalty kick and made it with 24 minutes left on the clock, tying the game at 1-1.

The remainder of regulation showed both teams having great opportunities to score the game-winning goal, but neither team could find the back of the net. Therefore, 90 minutes was not enough time for either team, so onto overtime the teams would go.

The Bulldogs would start the first overtime period with a lot of intensity, shooting the ball three different times until they finally hit the game-winning shot. In the 97th minute of play, Jordy Ortiz, scored the game-winner off the assist from Jean-Luc Saint Fleur

After today's loss the Cardinals drop to 1-7, 0-2 CUNYAC on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 2-4-2, 1-1-0 CUNYAC on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action on Wednesday at noon, at Detective Keith L. Williams Park in Jamaica, NY when they take on CCNY.
