OLD WESTBURY—The York College women's volleyball team lost both its matches in straight sets in a season-opening tri-match at Old Westbury Friday morning. The Cardinals fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-19) to Old Westbury in the morning and then lost to Centenary College 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-12).

York kept it close in the first set, until Old Westbury began to pull away midway through the action. In the second set, Old Westbury jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
In the final set, York looked strong early on, scoring six straight to go up 8-2.
Chayana Jimenez led the stretch with three service aces. However, Old Westbury quickly erased the lead, scoring the next seven points to move back ahead. They would never relinquish the lead from there.
York was led by
Argenis Morales, who had five kills and eight digs.
Maria Rodriguez chipped in four kills.
CENTENARY RECAP
After dropping the first set, York took a 15-10 advantage in the second set, as they hoped to even up the score. However, Centenary would score five straight to tie up the match. They would then pull away to take the set and go up 2-0. In the final set, York had an early, 6-4 advantage, but Centenary would once again go on a big run to clinch the match.
The Cardinals were led by Morales, who had six kills, while
Christine Houston had eight digs and
Kassandra Diaz finished with nine digs.
York returns to action on Tuesday with a match at Maritime at 7 p.m.
