THROGGS NECK, N.Y.—The York College women's volleyball team fell in straight sets on the road Tuesday night to Maritime College by a score of 3-0 (25-12 ,25-9, 25-14). York's difficulty in returning serves played a big part in the loss, as Maritime served up 29 aces on the evening.
Maritime's Shannon Brady and Rachel Rothstein led the way with eight aces apiece. Gabrielle Kempski finished with seven aces. Meredith Hayes recorded 12 kills.
York's
Maria Rodriguez paced the Cardinals with five kills.
Kassandra Diaz finished with three kills, six digs and a .375 hitting percentage.
Allison Ahmed had a match-high seven digs.
York hit .044 as a team, compared to .321 for Maritime. The 29 aces allowed was the big difference in the match though.
With the loss, York drops to 0-3, while Maritime is 1-0. The Cardinals' season-opening road stretch continues on Thursday with a match at New Jersey City University at 7 p.m.
