NEW YORK, N.Y.—The York College men's volleyball team opened up the conference portion of its schedule today and dropped a five-set heartbreaker to CCNY (25-16, 25-14, 27-29, 23-25, 15-12), before dropping the second match of the day to Hunter, 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-14).
CCNY Highlights
The Cardinals found themselves down 2-0 after a couple of poorly played sets in which they hit -.050 and -.368 respectively.
York picked up in the third, hitting .314 as a team and recording 15 kills. It looked like it would be a sweep for CCNY though, as the Beavers held a 23-20 lead in the third set. However, York scored four straight to take a 24-23 lead. CCNY would fight off three set points, before York finally closed out the set after a pair of errors by the Beavers.
In the fourth set, it was York who looked to be in command after holding a 24-19 lead, but CCNY fought off four set points in a row to cut the deficit to 24-23. Finally, York finished off the set with a kill from
Akeem George, forcing a fifth and deciding set.
In the final set, CCNY jumped out to a 7-4 lead, but York rallied to tie the score at 8-8. However, CCNY would score the next two points to pull ahead and did not relinquish the lead again.
George had a big day, finishing with a career-high 14 kills.
Burrel Kirk Murray added 11 kills and ten digs, while
Frederis Tapia recorded seven kills.
Adil Manji finished with a career-high 25 assists and
Paramvir Singh notched 12 digs.
Hunter Highlights
York could not get much going against perennial championship contender Hunter College. The Cardinals hit at a negative percentage on the day and managed just ten kills the entire match.
Hunter's Benjamin Cassidy was dominant, finishing with 12 kills and a .421 hitting percentage.
York is now 3-9, 0-2 CUNYAC. The Cardinals will be off until February 28, when they host Arcadia University at 7:30 p.m.
