JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's volleyball team earned a pair of victories at a home quad match on Saturday, defeating St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-12) and Albertus Magnus College, 3-0 (28-26, 25-9, 25-18).
St. Joseph's Highlights
The Cardinals hit .202 as a team, while holding the Bears to a percentage of -.115.
Akeem George had a season-high nine kills with a hitting percentage of .667.
Burrel Kirk Murray added eight kills and a .462 percentage.
Kit Keeratikanchanavong finished with five kills, a .571 hitting percentage, 18 assists, three aces and eight digs.
In the opening set, York and St. Joseph's were in a tight battle until the Cardinals scored eight straight with Keeratikanchanavong serving to pull away. A 12-1 run in the second set helped York cruise to a 2-0 lead and then York closed the third set after jumping out to an 11-5 advantage.
Albertus Magnus Highlights
York hit .217 in the second match and once again held Albertus Magnus to a modest .042 hitting percentage. George had another good game, finishing with seven kills, four aces and five digs.
Frederis Tapia added six kills, while Murray and
Larry Moore added four each.
Adil Manji had a team-high eight digs.
The two teams had a back-and-forth battle in the opening set. York had a 24-21 lead over the Falcons, but Albertus Magnus scored four straight to go up 25-24. York fought off the set point and eventually clinched the set after back-to-back kills from George and Murray.
The second set was a dominant performance from York, as they hit .533 as a team and cruised to a 25-9 win. The final set was close until late, when York went on a 6-0 run to pull away.
The wins push York's record to 3-7. They open up CUNYAC play this Monday with a tri-match at Hunter College. The Cardinals face CCNY at 11 a.m. and Hunter College at 1 p.m.
