JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's volleyball team had no answer for a strong Southern Virginia University team, losing in straight sets 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-9) at home on Friday night.
Southern Virginia hit .390 on the night, recording 35 kills. Colby Wilson had seven kills and an .750 hitting percentage and Paul Candland had seven kills and a .455 percentage. York was led by
Burrel Kirk Murray with four kills.
Adil Manji finished with 11 assists.
SVU dominated the first and third sets. However, York gave the Knights some trouble in the second set. After York fell behind 10-3, York scored five straight with
Kevin Campbell serving to make it 10-8. After the Knights scored the next two points, York responded with four straight, thanks to kills from Murray,
Frederis Tapia and
Larry Moore to tie it up at 12-12. However, Southern Virginia would pull away form there, scoring eight of the next nine points.
York drops to 1-7 on the year, while Southern Virginia is 9-4. Both teams will be back at York tomorrow for a quad match. York faces St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn at 11 a.m. and Albertus Magnus College at 1 p.m. Southern Virginia will face the same two teams at opposite times.
