JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College women's volleyball team held its senior night on Tuesday, but the Cardinals could not send the seniors out with a win, as John Jay College won by a score of 3-0 (25-6, 25-10, 25-21).
York had no answer for John Jay's Brittany Steele, who finished with a match-high 15 kills, while hitting .440.
York only had eight kills as team on the night, but senior
Christine Houston had the most with three kills.
Allison Ahmed was also playing her final home game at York and had eight assists. The third senior was
Allison Li, and she finished with a kill and four digs.
The Bloodhounds brought their "A" game tonight, hitting a .323 for the evening, which included a first set where they totaled 15 kills in just 20 attempts. They dominated the first two sets to take a commanding lead.
The final set looked to be another easy win for the Bloodhounds at first, as they jumped out to a 20-9 lead. The Cardinals showed they would not go quietly, rallying to score 12 of the next 16 points to cut the deficit to 24-21. In the end, the deficit was just too big too overcome.
With the loss, York is now 2-21, 1-7 CUNYAC. John Jay ups its mark to 14-10, 6-2 CUNYAC. The Cardinals will go on the road for their final match of the season when they visit Purchase College at 7 p.m.
