NEW YORK, N.Y.—The York College men's basketball had its best shooting performance of the season, but still fell to Hunter College by a score of 87-78 on the road Friday night.
Offense has been a problem for York all season long, however they shot a season-best 48.4 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range. York also held the rebounding edge (38-33) but were done in by 24 turnovers, which the Hawks converted into 23 points.
The two teams kept it close early on, with the score tied at 8-8 after a
Ryan Smart steal and dunk with 14:59 to go in the opening half. It remained a one-possession game until a 11-0 Hunter run, in which they scored on five of six possessions to go up by 11 with 4:55 to go in the first half.
In the second half, Hunter came out strong and pushed the lead to 19 points following back-to-back three's by Amer Lukac and Mamadou Sakho. The Cardinals seemed to regroup from there and chipped into the lead, getting the deficit down to as little as seven, but ran out of time to complete the comeback.
Ryan Smart led York with a season-high 20 points, to go along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Terrhon Vaughn scored a career-high 14 points, while
