Men’s Basketball Can’t Hold on to Lead Against Lehman

JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's basketball team could not hold on to an eight-point second half lead and eventually fell to Lehman College by a score of 69-59 at home on Wednesday night.

The Cardinals looked they might get that elusive first win of the season on Wednesday after going up 53-45 with 13 minutes left in the game. However, the Cardinals went ice cold and did not score a bucket for 8:45 seconds.  This would allow the Lightning, who trailed for most of the game, to go up by seven points (60-53) with just 4:20 to go.  York could not get it going offensively the rest of the way and lost by ten.

The Cardinals played arguably their best half of the season in the first half, taking an early 36-26 lead after consecutive Ryan St. John three-pointer with 4:01 to go.  St. John sparked the team in the first half, scoring 18 points before the break.

However, York allowed Lehman to get some momentum before halftime, as the Lightning closed on a 13-2 run to tie the score at 40-40.

Despite allowing Lehman back in the game before halftime, York picked it up again to start the half, going on a 7-0 run capped by a Ryan Smart three-pointer to put the Cardinals up 51-43.  Unfortunately, things went downhill for the Cardinals from there.

Smart led York with another double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.  Paramvir Singh scored a career-high ten points and Larry Moore pulled down 11 boards. St. John had all of his 18 points in the first half and could not add to his total in the second half.

Lehman's Mylo Mitchell scored 30 points to lead all scorers. The Lightning improve to 6-6, 3-2 CUNYAC with the win.

York (0-11, 0-4 CUNYAC) visits Hunter College on Friday at 7 p.m.
