STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—The York College men's basketball team had one of its best scoring games of the year, but it was still not enough to top the high-powered offense of the College of Staten Island, as they lost by a score of 101-84.
York had its third-highest output of the season, but Staten Island's offense was better, as they put up triple digits and shot 55.6 percent from the field. The Dolphins had five players reach double figures in scoring, led by Khaleeq Baum's 19 points and 13 rebounds. Frank Schettino had 13 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds.
Jean Joseph led the Cardinals with 22 points and ten rebounds, while shooting 9-of-18 from the field.
Edwin Sainvil scored 18 points and
Josh Perez scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
York held the early lead in the first half thanks to a three-pointer by
Edwin Sainvil that made it 15-14 with 13:15 to go. But CSI would pull back ahead by one, and then four straight jumpers by the Dolphins extended the lead up to nine points. They would go into the halftime with an 11-point lead.
In the second half, any hope of a comeback for York was quickly dashed, as another big Dolphin run extended the lead up to 21 points. The Cardinals never got closer than 15 the rest of the way.
York drops to 2-18, 2-10 CUNYAC. Staten Island improves to 15-6, 12-0 CUNYAC. The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday with a home game at 8 p.m. vs. Hunter College. Fans in attendance will have an opportunity to win both Applebee's Gift Cards and an airplane ticket on JetBlue.
